Cowles Clinic Imaging Center Introduces Digital Technology

A new standard for imaging in the Lake Oconee region is being set by Cowles Clinic. Advanced diagnostic care is now being delivered at Cowles Clinic Imaging Center using 100% digital technology on the level of the most advanced metropolitan imaging centers. Prostate Cancer Implants Now Performed at Cowles Clinic

In an effort to provide the best treatments with greater patient access, urologist, Dr. Bob Cowles is now performing Permanent Prostate Seed Implants and High Dose Rate (HDR) prostate implants on site at Georgia Center for Total Cancer Care at Cowles Clinic. These therapies are two of the most effective radiation treatments used in the U. S. for prostate cancer.

Permanent Prostate Seed Implants and High Dose Rate (HDR) procedures were formerly only available in the hospital setting on an outpatient basis. Recently, Dr. Cowles was joined by Dr. David Lowther, a radiation oncologist with Atlanta Oncology Associates who trained at the first dedicated HDR center in the United States in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Lowther brings to Cowles Clinic his experience in performing over 150 HDR implants and delivering over 500 HDR treatments. By combining their expertise in prostate cancer treatment, Dr. Cowles, Dr. Lowther and the oncology team have brought these therapies to the Cowles Clinic campus. The highest quality of care is now delivered in a comfortable, safe environment that is close to home. No hospital admission is required resulting in more cost effective medical treatment with less stress on patients and their caregivers.

Advanced Audiology and Hearing Care

Kimberly Nelson, Au.D., has joined the staff of Cowles Clinic bringing her years of training and experience in hearing care to our community. Her new practice is now accepting patients in Dogwood Cottage, Suite D-200. Services provided include: comprehensive hearing testing of all ages and state-of-the-art digital hearing aid technology. Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine

John McCurley, MD., Internal Medicine and Richard Baehler, M.D., Internal Medicine and Nephrology have joined our campus in the practice of Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine. Both are board certified physicians with distinguished careers in adult health care. Their focus is providing primary care for adult wellness, prevention and treatment of disease. Patients with both simple and complex health concerns are welcomed, including those with severe chronic illness or multiple medical problems. The office is located in Aspen Cottage, Suite A-100. Georgia Center for Total Cancer Care at Cowles Clinic

Comprehensive cancer treatment is now available at our regional center offering state-of-the-art cancer therapy. The center is staffed by two of the largest and most experienced oncology groups in the southeast, Atlanta Oncology Associates and Georgia Cancer Specialists, who together with Cowles Clinic's physicians create a team approach to treatment. The 11,000 square foot, dedicated center delivers medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, genetic counseling and a full range of patient wellness services. All types of cancer are treated using the most medically advanced and recognized therapies.

Family Eye Care Associates at Cowles Clinic

Cowles Clinic's new ophthalmology center, Family Eye Care Associates, opened in September 2007. With 6 board certified optometrists, ophthalmologists and eye surgeons, Family Eye Care offers an extensive spectrum of eye care services for every member of the family. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 706-999-2020. Family Eye Care Associates is currently housed in the newly completed Oak Cottage, but will move to the Willow Cottage once its construction is completed this Fall. A 1000 square foot retail eyeglass and eye wear accessories center will also be housed in the Willow Cottage upon building completion.

Cowles Clinic Dermatology

Ross Campbell, MD, a board certified dermatologist, has joined the Cowles Clinic team and will be offering full time dermatology and Mohs surgery services starting in Fall 2007. Dr. Campbell is a native of the central Georgia lake area, having attended the University of Georgia and Medical College of Georgia. He went on to perform a dermatology residency at the prestigious Brown Medical School, and has completed several procedural and Mohs dermatological surgery fellowships. Appointments will begin being scheduled soon.
