Cowles Clinic's campus is the home of two internal medicine practices with each offering advanced and complete primary care to the patients of the Lake Oconee region. These board certified physicians work in concert with all Cowles Clinic campus specialists to provide a multi-disciplinary, team approach to care.
Medical Group of Saint Joseph's at Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine focuses on adult health care. We care for our patients for life – from the teen years through senior adult – with specialized training in adult wellness, prevention and treatment of disease. Patients with both simple and complex health concerns are welcomed, including those with severe chronic illness or multiple medical problems. Effective and time sensitive treatment is provided for both common and acute medical problems. We work with the Cowles Clinic sub-specialists as a multidisciplinary team to see that all health concerns are addressed. Care is coordinated in our campus office and, if needed, in the hospital setting. A full range of laboratory and radiological testing capabilities are available on our medical campus for diagnosis, direct treatment and prevention of disease.

Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine is staffed by two physicians: Aurelio D. Manto, M.D., board certified in Internal Medicine and Richard Baehler, M.D., board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
Dr. Manto, a Board Certified Internal Medicine physician, hails from Boston where he has been practicing medicine for the past 15 years.He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts and holds a medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dr. Manto completed his Internal Medicine residency at Harvard-affiliated Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Dr. Manto has published, served as a clinical instructor at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, and served as an active member of the medical community in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Dr. Richard Baehler has extensive clinical and research experience in internal medicine and renal (kidney) disease. His numerous hospital appointments have included Section Chief of Internal Medicine and Neuphrology at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, KY. Dr. Baehler has written extensively on renal disease and served as both a primary and sub investigator in medical research.

Our patients enjoy a “whole person” approach to health care. Understanding a patient's lifestyle and medical concerns allows our physician, Dr. Janet Griffin, to work with the patient in managing his or her health and incorporating disease prevention into everyday life. Internal medicine manages common and complex illnesses of adolescents, adults and the elderly; from wellness visits to diagnosing hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and heart disease as well as issues concerning the kidney, joint, digestive, respiratory and vascular systems. Dr. Griffin works with the patient and Cowles Clinic sub-specialists to manage health concerns.
